At Opus, our commitment to the wellbeing of our teams doesn't stop when they finish work for the day. Through Opus Well Rounded, our HR initiative, we're able to provide ongoing support to our people across the globe, whenever they need it.

We've partnered with Working With Cancer to support our employees while they are managing cancer, whether they're taking time off or returning to work. With over 50% of cancer patients afraid to tell their employers about their diagnosis, this partnership offers the training we need to ensure our workplace, people, and policies provide the best possible support for individuals and their loved ones affected by cancer.

Following World Cancer Day on the 4th of February, we wanted to share our ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing. This commitment is reflected in the ever-growing fundraising efforts from our team, including our incredible Associate Director, Jack Procter:

'Throughout the year, I’ll be completing 12 marathons (one per month), one of which during an Ultra Marathon (100km) and another during a full-distance Iron Man to raise some much-needed funds for an incredible charity – the Dougie Mac Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent. The Dougie Mac provides free care for people with terminal illnesses and their families.

The DM team provided incredible at-home support to my mum after she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (cholangiocarcinoma) in 2017, and looked after her in-hospice in the weeks before she passed in 2020. The support is honestly invaluable to individuals and families who find themselves in comparable situations and the charity continues to provide this for thousands of other local families.'

Jack is one of our many employees affected by cancer, and we hope that by sharing his story, and upcoming stories of further fundraising, we can continue to show support, raise money, and impact positive change for those managing cancer.
