  • What was the challenge?

    After an IPO in October 2020, Mode were looking to execute their vision. They were seeking a partnership that would enable them to scale up within 14 months, and were looking for a transparent pricing model.
    They were also keen to embed a new cohort of diverse talent in their existing teams, and wanted a recruitment model that would provide them with job-ready, quality candidates.

  • Characteristics of our solution

    We worked with our tech training partner, _nology, to create a cost-effective solution that also had huge diversity benefits. While we provided a consistent flow of mid- and senior-level hires, _nology consultants added further support and balanced the shape of the new teams. We upskilled individuals to ensure they had the necessary tech stack to join the existing team, and ensured that we chose people we felt would also be great cultural fit for Mode. 
    This was a real case of technology transformation working responsively between ourselves, _nology, and Mode, taking into account the specific roles that each individual would be moving into, and designing a further 4 weeks of training for that group.
    Not only did the trainees come away with a real understanding of Cloud Engineering, but also of the mindset needed to work such a role within an enterprise organisation. By embracing our usual training style of simulating the workplace and incorporating Mode within the training (such as with visits and demos from the tech teams), the transition into the roles was smooth.

  • Outcomes and benefits

    Instead of simply looking for talent in a traditional, more transactional recruitment method, we created it. Our tech training partner, _nology, enables us to reach a pool of talent that is hugely more diverse than the tech industry. By choosing people with transferrable skills who’d be a cultural fit for our clients, we established a great foundation for our upskilling and retraining programmes. 

    As part of our solution, we provided Mode with a Recruitment Business Partner who created and oversaw every stage of the candidate journey, from the initial call to onboarding. An experienced Account Director managed the Opus Talent Solutions Delivery Team throughout this project, providing real-time recruitment metrics for up-to-date reporting. We worked closely with the _nology Account Manager to coordinate resources and timing effectively.
    This pop-up RPO assisted Mode to scale at pace – in just over a year, we hired 39 people, including key hires across their Recruitment and Technology teams.

    We provided interview training for all Mode Hiring Managers and ran a number of digital marketing campaigns focussed on diversity and inclusion. We upskilled and recruited for roles within Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Business Analysis, and Data, all whilst being integrated into their business as a true resourcing partner.
